Title: The Dark Spire
Company: Success, Atlus
Platform: Nintendo DS
Rating: E for Everyone 10+
All I can say is that this time spent away from my XBox 360 (which was sent in for repairs) has been an interesting time. Unintentionally, I played three Atlus games in a row, and each one has been quirky and special in its own way. Nostalgia is a word you’ve heard me use a lot lately in my most recent game reviews, and this review will be no different. A journey back in time, to when video games were simpler and RPGs were full of text and rolls of the dice, The Dark Spire is an RPG adventure that brings classic gaming to a whole new generation of gamers.

Who likes comics? We do, we do!
DarkSakura’s Picks
Another week and more comics! We love comics!
- Captain America: Theater of War #1 - So excited about this one. I do miss the old Cap, even if Bucky is doing a pretty good job being Steve Jr, so this story into the past will be exciting. I also love historical settings, especially in WWII, so this will be a double treat for me. I hope to see some strong characterization.
- Dark Reign: The Cabal #1 – Do I finally get Emma Frost time? I always knew she still had the devious streak. It’s a very interesting combination of heroes and villains and people who walk that fine line. I’m really looking forward to seeing how their plans progress. Hopefully I get to see Osborn crash and burn.
- X-Force/Cable Messiah War One-Shot #1 - Why did I choose this over Deadpool kicking butt? I still have a thing for my X-teams, and I hope this ties up some loose ends regarding the explosive mutant baby and how Cable’s doing as a babysitter. This might even be an excuse for me to bother with Cable’s title.
Marron’s Picks
A lot of really great stuff coming out this week makes it hard to choose just three!
- War Machine #5 - I am absolutely adoring this series. It doesn’t help that I’m a huge Bethany Cabe fangirl. It’s a Dark Reign tie in, which means we’re not only going to see more of Rhodey’s new BFF (I say that sarcastically) Ares, God of War, and we’re sure to hear more from Norman Osborn. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
- Muppet Robin Hood #1 – Oh, come on guys! Can you blame me? The Muppets! The first of four issues, this retelling of the famous Robin Hood story, starring Kermit the Frog and all of our Muppet favorites is sure to be great fun!
- Eureka: Dormant Gene #1 - Eureka will be back on TV with a new season very soon, but in the meantime, I’m looking forward to reading another great story. I can’t wait to see what sort of trouble Carter will run into as he once again saves the town of Eureka from itself! If you haven’t watched Eureka and are into sci-fi humor, I highly suggest checking it out! You can watch the first season of Eureka on Hulu.com.

Title: Tokyo Beat Down
Company: Success, Atlus
Platform: Nintendo DS
Rating: T for Teen
The neighborhood of Yaesu in the Chuuo ward is overrun with criminals. It’s up to the world-famous Beast Cops to keep the crime in check and the streets of Tokyo safe. Looking like they just stepped out of a bad 80’s sitcom, these retro-fashion-wearing cops will go to great lengths and extreme measures to catch crooks.

It’s Monday, and time for a special version of our normal feature! In honor of the upcoming movie (which I personally am excited for and terrified of because of the weirdness of Deadpool in that movie), which comes out on Friday, May 1st, we have a special Wolverine edition of Monday Comic Mania!
- Astonishing X-Men #29 – Finally, the next issue of this run! Warren Ellis is an amazing writer (and highly amusing on twitter), and Simone Bianchi’s art is the best to come out of European comics in years. What exactly is the Ghost Box? I’m eager to find out!
- Wolverine First Class #14 – The fun continues with special guest stars Elektra, Daredevil, and the Hand. One of the most enjoyable series to come out of the “First Class” comics, this isn’t an issue to miss.
- X-Force #14 - Stryfe is back and things can’t be good! X-Force and Cable struggle to keep Hope alive, but things aren’t always that easy. In the present, Cyclops is hiding X-Force’s involvement, while in the future, Wolverine is butting heads with Cable. Don’t miss this issue of one of the most exciting X-books to hit the shelves!
- Wolverine: Weapon X – Files – A handbook all about the beloved Canuck mutant that has Hollywood’s adoration and fangirls everywhere drooling just a little (well, a lot of that has to do with Hugh Jackman, but I digress). Featuring a complete biography of Wolverine, plus some info on his allies and enemies, this is a handbook for every Wolverine fan to have!
- Wolverine: Not Dead Yet Premier HC – Featuring one of the best solo Wolverine stories in recent history, this trade collects Wolverine #119-122, written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Leinil Francis Yu. I’m not kidding; it’s a great story! See for yourself as Marvel re-releases this story in hard cover format this week.
Title: Legacy of Ys: Books I & II
Company: Nihon Falcom, Atlus
Platform: Nintendo DS
Rating: T for Teen
Originally released in on the TurboGrafx-16 in the late 1980s, it has been nearly two decades since those of us in North America were first able to adventure to the land of Ys. Like with all video game remakes, Legacy of Ys: Books I & II holds a lot of nostalgia for me. The world of Ys is grand and epic in scale for a series of games of this time period; with a grandiose story, fast-paced action and a musical score like no other, this set of games is most certainly a classic. But, does this Nintendo DS remake live up to the name?
