Another Comic Quick Pick!
Posted by MarronApr 26
I knew that all of the excitement over my new iPad got me distracted from something. Funny that it took reading comics through the Marvel Comics app to realize that I hadn’t yet taken the time to blog about my picks for this week. Shame on me! There are so many good comics coming out, too! Let’s take a look at this week’s top five picks.

5. Fraggle Rock #1 (of 4) – As a kid growing up in the eighties, I used to love the Fraggle Rock TV series. As a graphic designer working at a college newspaper this last semester, I used to love Netflix and the instant streaming of Fraggle Rock onto my laptop as I worked on graphics in the office. Long story short: I adore Fraggle Rock, and I’m pretty darn excited about this new limited series. I can’t wait to see what Gobo, Mokey, Wembley, Boober and Red are all up to now. Also, as a bonus, if you haven’t yet, check out Christopher from the Homeworld’s interview with both the artist and writer of this series!
4. Last Unicorn #1 – This is one of the many reasons I love IDW Publishing. As a child, The Last Unicorn was one of my favorite books as well as one of my favorite movies. In fact, I wore out the VHS tape from watching it so many times — so, you can imagine how very much I’m looking forward to seeing this adaptation of Peter S. Beagle’s novel The Last Unicorn. With an adaptation written by Peter B. Gillis and illustrated by the wonderful artists Renae De Liz and Ray Dillon, this is sure to be a fantastic take on an amazing work.
3. Green Lanter Corps #47 – Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner — along with the rest of the Green Lantern Corps — will have a lot of clean-up to do now that Blackest Night is over and the Brightest Day is here. What will the Alpha Lanterns have in store for the Green Lanterns? I can’t wait to find out!
2. Star Trek: Captain’s Log: Harriman – We didn’t see much of Captain John Harriman. In fact, all we saw of him was the set-up of the movie Generations. As Captain of the USS Enterprise B, Harriman is only remembered as the man many held responsible for the disappearance of the (in)famous James Tiberius Kirk. This story, written by veteran writer Marc Guggenheim (The Practice, Law & Order, CSI: Miami), will show us how one captain can come to terms with being the man who “killed” a legend.
1. Invincible Iron Man #25 - A whole new story line by writer Matt Fraction and artist Salvador Larroca. They haven’t said much about what to expect, other than that the storyline is called “RESILIENT” and Marvel is hailing it as the “perfect jumping-on point for fans of the films and readers new and old alike!” We’ll see. All I can say is that I saw some glimmers of the Tony Stark I knew and loved in the last few issues, so I’m giving Matt Fraction a chance. Let’s hope he does something good with it!

So, there you have it: my top five picks for the week! The second printing of Mark Millar’s Nemesis #1 comes out this week, too. It’s, uh, very interesting and has a lot of swear words. Also of note, Captain America #605, Detective Comics #864, Action Comics #889, Mighty Avengers #36 and New Avengers #64. The third installment of the comic book adaptation of JJ Abrams’ Star Trek movie also comes out this week. All in all, a great week for comics!
