Monday Comic Quick Pick
Posted by MarronMay 3
It’s Monday again! And a rather hectic Monday, at that. As you know, I usually like to ponder my comic picks over the weekend so I can have them ready for you early Monday morning. With Free Comic Book Day this past weekend, however, I was thrown for a bit of a loop with extra comics to read. Finals are this week for my university, as well, so as you can imagine it’s a time of utter chaos! That said, what can bring a little bit of zen to the hectic life of a geek girl? Why, comics, of course! Let’s see what’s on the pull list for this week.

5. Ultimate Comics New Ultimates #2 – I used to dabble quite a bit more in the Ultimate universe until Jeph Loeb blew it up. I also used to absolutely love the Ultimates — when Mark Millar was writing it. I’ve been keeping tabs on Millar’s Ultimate Avengers, but having Jeph Loeb as the writer for the New Ultimates has made me thus far wary of the title. I’ll admit I took a peek at the first issue this past week while at the comic shop, and I’m willing to give New Ultimates a try — for now. We’ll see where this goes, and maybe I’ll even be pleasantly surprised!
4. Jonah Hex #1 New Printing – So, with the current run of Jonah Hex up to #55 (also coming out this week), why in the world would a new printing of Jonah Hex #1 be on my list? Well, it’s pretty simple: Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures will be releasing a Jonah Hex movie on June 18th, so what better way to get newcomers to this series prepared than to re-release the first issue of the series? For only $1.00, the price can’t be beat.
3. Avengers Origin #2 of 5 – Okay, so the first issue of this new Avengers Origin story was pretty interesting. Loki using hackers to gather together our five heroes. Now what? I’m sticking with this limited series to see how well it fares; it’s hard to judge from the first issue because it was almost entirely set-up. Now, hopefully, we’ll get to the action!
2. Pride and Prejudice & Zombies graphic novel – “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains.” It’s a not-so-secret secret that I love zombies. Give me a good zombie thriller over a vampire tale any day (I said give me a GOOD zombie thriller, Marvel Zombies). Keeping that in mind, you can imagine that it’s hard to say no to a graphic novel based on the New York Times bestselling reimagining of Jane Austen’s immortal classic by Seth Grahame-Smith. This is definitely something I need to add to my collection!
1. Brightest Day #1 – WHITE LANTERN RING! Ahem. I mean, the Blackest Night is over, and here comes the Brightest Day! Having thoroughly enjoyed Blackest Night, I’m definitely looking forward to this. A few select heroes were brought back from the dead — but to what end. I hope we’ll find out!

Not too shabby, if I do say so myself — and I do! Don’t forget that we’re entering into what Marvel is calling “The Heroic Age” of comics, so along with Avengers Origin #2, don’t forget to pick up the Avengers/Thor/Captain America Official Index to the Marvel Universe #1, also coming out this week!
Until next time, have a great comics week!
